TAPPS grants a significant amount of freedom to their member schools in the hiring of personnel for their athletic programs. Member schools are permitted to hire coaches who are full-time or part-time; they may be paid or volunteer. However, TAPPS requires that all coaches meet some basic minimum eligibility requirements in order to conduct practices or to coach in any competition. These eligibility qualifications involve registration with TAPPS, completion of the TEAMS courses, as well as additional training in Health and Safety. An additional requirement for individuals who are new to coaching is the completion of NFHS courses.
