Concussion Management

Each TAPPS athletic director and coach is required to receive training in Concussion Management on an annual basis. This training shall consist of at least one hour and shall encompass Basic Concussion Awareness, School Concussion Protocol and Player Education.

The Member School Concussion Protocol shall encompass and endorse the following:  any player who shows signs, symptoms or behaviors associated with a concussion must be removed from the contest and may not return to play on the same day. The individual shall not return to play until cleared by an appropriate health-care professional chosen by the school administrator. A written clearance must be obtained from that health care professional prior to student participation in any practice, scrimmage or contest. A report of all concussions shall be made to the TAPPS office and archived in their database.
