Classifications vs Divisions

The table shown contrasts the sports that TAPPS separated into classifications versus the sports that were separated by division in the last alignment cycle.

It is important to understand that the terms “Classification” and “Divisions” are often used interchangeably since they refer to the same thing – an organization of schools by enrollment for the purpose of competing for State Championships. Classification is a term used for those activities that have enough schools to separate into six competitive groupings. Division is a term used for the activities that have less than six.
